    Basic First Aid 

Course Aim
Trainees will be able to assess and then manage a casualty of an illness and / or accident with basic life supporting first aid for a short period of time.

Course Overview
Trainees are taught to assess a casualties condition and will able to provide basic life supporting first aid for bleeding and shock; burns; fractures and soft tissue injuries; poisonings; and heart attack; asthma attack; stroke; and seizure. The course includes practical instruction on supporting the breathing and circulation of a casualty with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

NZQA Unit Standards
6401     Provide first aid
6402     Provide resuscitation level

Attendance Numbers     Minimum of 10, maximum of 15 per trainer
Course Duration            1 day

Entry Criteria
The course requires a level of fitness to demonstrate competency for the skill being trained.

Most workplaces require a refresher every 2 years.
Refreshing learning outcomes above for unit standards 6400, 6401 and 6402.
Attendance Numbers: Minimum 8, Maximum 15          Duration: 1 day
