    Driver Licence Class 2

Course Aim
Driver Licence Class 2 - Any rigid vehicle (including any tractor) with a Gross Laden Weight (GLW) of more than 4500kg but less than 18,001kg.

The aim of this course is to produce a Class 2 vehicle operator that will have the knowledge, skills and attributes for all essential areas of the units of competency covered in the Class 2 vehicle course undertaken, enabling the individual to drive effectively and safely. The trainee will also be able to demonstrate the appropriate responsibilities of a driver of a Class 2 vehicle with emphasis on accident prevention and driver responsibility.

Course Overview
The trainees will undergo formal in class training in association with unit standard 17574 and 24089 prior to being assessed. This will be followed by the practical aspects of driving a truck including training and assessment (assessment 45 to 60 minutes per trainee) on unit standard 17574.

NZQA Unit Standards 
17574     Operate a rigid vehicle to meet the requirements for a full Class 2 driver licence
24089     Demonstrate knowledge of fatigue management, work time, and driver logbook requirements

NOTE: Unit Standard 24089 must be included for all heavy trade licences unless you have qualified on this unit standard within a 12 month period

Attendance Numbers      Minimum of 3, maximum of 5 per trainer
Course Duration             2 days

Entry Criteria
A Class 2 learners licence.
This course requires a level of fitness to demonstrate competency for the skill being trained.

Note: To obtain the class 2 learners licence the individual must have held the class 1 full licence for a period of six months. They will then need to provide a current medical certificate and pass a 35 question theory test at a local AA or Licensing Establishment.
