Vertical Horizonz New Zealand (VHNZ), specialists in practical, health and safety training have acquired Fire and Emergency Training Solutions (FETS), a nationwide provider of emergency preparedness, emergency response and maritime training.
The acquisition stems from a shared desire to provide high quality training that saves and changes lives, and will combine the specialisms and reach of both companies to add value to our respective customer bases.
“From the very beginning, Vertical Horizonz and FETS have shared common operating principles and operate more as allies than competitors” says Bruce Mazengarb, Vertical Horizonz Owner/Chairman. “I see this acquisition as a natural fit.”

Shared values are not the only similarity between the businesses. Both companies were started over two decades ago when the founders saw the need for more stringent and effective training to keep workers safe in their respective industries. This original ethos continues to flow through each business and will strengthen even further with the amalgamation of both companies.
“Vertical Horizonz and FETS were both born around the same time in 1998. I was coming from a military background and Trevor and Dave from the fire service. We provided similar products, but our customer base was somewhat apart” said Mazengarb. “It’s a privilege and feels just right that VHNZ are able to take care of and expand on what FETS have built over the last 23 years.”
The acquisition will increase VHNZ’s training portfolio in a key sector and industry group. FETS offer unrivaled knowledge and skills in fire and maritime emergency training that will benefit a number of existing and future clients and enhance our mission to provide Real Training that Saves Lives.
