PURPOSE
The construction industry is desperate for skilled construction workers. High work is required on most construction sites, both residential and commercial. The scaffolding industry require 3000 skilled scaffolders to meet the current industry need.
Our NZQA approved Certificate in Construction Pre-Trade (High Work) course was designed with the help of the scaffolding industry, to provide trainees with basic skills and experience to enable people to work safely at heights. The course assumes trainees may have had little or no formal training. If you are fit, enjoy working with your hands, want to begin a trade career, and not afraid of heights this may be the course for you.
COURSE Overview
This programme is delivered over twelve weeks by a combination of a compulsory two-and-a-half-week block course (this can be completed in one block or as a series of smaller blocks spread over the Twelve weeks) and workplace experience.
At the completion of the programme you will be able to:
- Explain safe work practices for working at heights
- Use safety harness system when working at height
- Employ height safety equipment in the workplace
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding up to five meters in height
- Handle and maintain basic scaffolding components
- Load and unload a general freight vehicle
- Identify causes of back injury and methods to prevent back injuries in the workplace
- Operate a forklift
- Operate an Elevated Work Platform (EWP)
- Provide first aid and basic life support

Entry Criteria
To be eligible to enroll, applicants must:
• Be physically fit and able to climb and lift weights
• Weigh less than 135 Kilograms (due to harness weight restrictions
Note: Ideally, applicants will have access to a real workplace where they can complete the workplace practical experience, projects, and assessments required.
SPECIAL NOTES
Our free programme trainees must be citizens or residents of either New Zealand or Australia.
Some Unit Standards require verified Practical Experience (via LogBooks).
