The construction industry is desperate for skilled workers. High work is required on most construction sites, both residential and commercial, it is also used for staging and support work. The scaffolding industry alone require 3000 skilled scaffolders to meet the current industry need.
Our Certificate in Construction Pre-Trade (High Work) course was designed with the help of the construction industry, to provide trainees with basic skills and experience to enable people to work safely at height. The course assumes trainees may have had little or no formal training. If you are fit, enjoy working with your hands, want to begin a trade career, and not afraid of heights this may be the course for you.
This programme is delivered over ten weeks by a combination of a compulsory thirteen day block course and workplace experience (this can be completed in one block or as a series of smaller blocks spread over the ten weeks).
At the completion of the programme you will be able to:
- Apply safe work practices while working at height
- Safely handle heavy loads manually and using a forklift
- Handle and erect scaffolding to five metres in height
- Provide First Aid.

OUR TEACHING METHOD
Our Trainers are all experienced practical people. They speak everyday workplace language and have a wealth of real life examples to share with our students. A typical delivery is through experience. Over 50% of the lessons contain hands-on activities or workplace experience. Students are encouraged to ‘have a go’ in a supportive, safe environment.
For our free programme trainees must be citizens or residents of either New Zealand or Australia.
ID must be provided prior to attending.
To be eligible to enrol, applicants must:
• Be physically able to demonstrate competency (climb and lift weights)
• Weigh less than 135 Kilograms (maximum weight for a harness).
