Overview

The apprenticeship consists of:

·         One week off-job block course “Skills Week” see details below

·         Two Day heights off-job block course – see details below

·         Six five-day off-job block courses – these include assessment for CoC’s – see details below.

These courses introduce subjects to be learnt on-job and complete assessment on the unit standards highlighted in blue.
Skills Organisation will arrange the block courses with VHNZ.

Off-job Block Course
Skills Week - Five Days

Unit Standard Unit Description
4249 Describe care and timeliness as an employee
30692 Perform basic calculations used in given trade situations
30264 Describe duties, rights, representation, and the regulator in terms of New Zealand health and safety legislation
6401 Provide first aid
6402 Provide basic life support
6400 Manage first aid in an emergency situation

 


 

Off-job Block Course
Working at Heights - Two Days

Unit Standard Unit Description
23229 Use safety harness system when working at height
15757 Use, install and disestablish temporary proprietary height safety systems when working at height

 


 

Off-job Block Course One
Year One - Five Days

Unit Descriptions
20859 Base out proprietary frame scaffolding
20860 Base out individual component proprietary scaffolding
30266 Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety culture and practices
30264 Describe duties, rights, representation, and the regulator in terms of New Zealand health and safety legislation (also in Skills week no need to complete twice)
The following Unit Standards are introduced during the above block delivery or assessed on job.
30628 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of leadership skills and communicate instructions on a scaffolding project.
19620 Interpret and apply scaffolding health and safety legislative requirements
19621 Interpret and apply legislative requirements in in the design of scaffolding works
30072 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safely
20858 Base out tube and fitting scaffolding
23224 Erect and dismantle standing tube and fitting scaffolding

 


 

Off-Job Block Course Two 
Year Two - Five Days 

Unit  Description
30072 Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safely
20858 Base out tube and fitting scaffolding
The following Unit Standards are introduced during the above block delivery or assessed on job.
23224 Erect and dismantle standing tube and fitting scaffolding
23226 Erect and dismantle elementary falsework
23715 Design, erect and dismantle scaffolding ties.

 


 

Off-Job Block Course Three
Year Two - Five Days - Capstone Assessment

In this one week block you will be assessed for your certificate of compliance (CoC).

Unit Description
23223 Base out returns for tube and fitting scaffolding
23224 Erect and dismantle standing tube and fitting scaffolding
23226 Erect and dismantle elementary falsework
30628 Demonstrate knowledge of leadership skills and communicate instructions on a scaffolding project.

 



Off-Job Block Four
Year Three - Five Days

Completed by level 4 scaffolding apprentices.

Unit  Description
23718 Erect and dismantle catch fans
23720 Erect, operate, and dismantle mast climbers
The following Unit Standards are introduced during the above block delivery or assessed on job.
23231 Develop a safety plan to manage risks when individuals are working at height and fall preventions strategies required.
23716 Erect and dismantle vessel scaffolding
23717 Erect and dismantle birdcage scaffolding
26606 Erect and dismantle simple cantilevers from and existing scaffold

 



Off-Job Block Five
Year Three - Five Days

Completed by level 4 scaffolding apprentices.

23719 Erect, operate, and dismantle winches on scaffolding
23231 Develop a safety plan to manage risks when individuals are working at height and fall preventions strategies required.
The following Unit Standards are introduced during the above block delivery or assessed on job.
23716 Erect and dismantle vessel scaffolding
23717 Erect and dismantle birdcage scaffolding
26606 Erect and dismantle simple cantilevers from and existing scaffold

 



Off-Job Block Six
Year Three - Five Days - Capstone Assessment

In this one week block you will be assessed for your certificate of compliance (CoC).

  Level 4 (Trade) practical Capstone assessment
The following Unit Standards are introduced during the above block delivery or assessed on job.
23716 Erect and dismantle vessel scaffolding
23717 Erect and dismantle birdcage scaffolding
26606 Erect and dismantle simple cantilevers from and existing scaffold
