New Zealand Certificate in Infastructure
WORKS PLANT AND EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS - LEVEL 3
This qualification is designed for people working in forestry related industries, who use civil plant to construct roads, tracks, and landings. The course covers skills related to knowledge of the forestry environment in general, support forestry harvesting and other operations. The content has been specifically structured to cover the core elements of Civil Infrastructure in New Zealand forest operations.
Topics included are:
- Earthworks in general forestry earthworks and forestry earthworks job prescriptions
- Health, safety, and environmental factors
- General requirements related to working in a forestry earthworks situation.
Course Structure and Delivery
The New Zealand Certificate has been broken down into practical and theory components with the first day covering the theory elements and subsequent days performing practical competencies.
The experience is closely aligned with the usual health and safety issues associated with forestry operations.
Learning Style and Assessment Processes
The New Zealand Certificate course is facilitated by Vertical Horizonz New Zealand.
- The course involves interactive sessions suitable for people who use civil plant to construct roads, tracks, and landings and covers skills related to knowledge of the forestry environment in general, support forestry harvesting and other operations.
- Candidates will complete both written and practical assessments dependant on the type of machinery they have selected. Practical assessments are done onsite and include one on one observation.

Unit Standards not covered in the programme
To achieve the qualification in Infrastructure Works Plant and Equipment Operations, trainees must achieve the following compulsory unit standards.
Unit 17769 - Demonstrate knowledge of general health, safety, and environmental requirements in forestry
Unit 24574 - Demonstrate knowledge of, and contribute to, worksite health and safety for commercial forestry operations
Unit 24568 - Demonstrate knowledge of and undertake, basic repairs and maintenance on a forestry industry machine.

Completion of Additional units
If trainees would like to, or require additional machinery elective unit standards as part of Block 2, this will require an additional fee of $125 excluding GST per machine. This is unsubsidised as is over and above the programme requirements.
Qualification is delivered on behalf of Competenz who will issue the New Zealand Certificate.
