People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify common emergencies and pre-trip emergency planning for an outdoor activity; demonstrate initial response to emergency care management situations in the outdoors; assess and manage the patient’s condition in line with current first aid practices and cultural considerations; secure and transport the patient; and make an evacuation plan for the patient (and/or the group) from the outdoor location to outside help.
Practical and theory lessons covering the following topics:
- Environmental conditions and management
- Accident site managment
- Patient assessment
- CPR and basic life support
- AED use
- Fracture assessment and treatment
- Spinal assessment and treatment
- Common medical conditions.
The course requires a level of fitness to demonstrate competency for the skill being trained.
6400: 6401, 6402
Can be carried out in 1 day if the trainee holds a current 6400 certificate.
