Our VHNZ CEO Carl McOnie recently completed the Silent Leadership Challenge run by the National Foundation for the Deaf (NFD). An initiative to put a spotlight on the day to day challenges of the hearing impaired.
The challenge involved corporate leaders donning earmuffs, which simulated hearing impairment, during a range of day to day situations like team meetings or watching TV. The final test was attending a social setting with the ear muffs in place.
Carl was joined by, MP for Bay of Plenty - Todd Muller, MP for Tauranga - Simon Bridges, Tauranga Mayor - Greg Brownless, VHNZ Training Manger - Marcus Bathan and GM for Tauranga Crossing - Jill McKenzie for some drinks, nibbles and hearing impaired conversation to experience for themselves the challenges those with hearing loss deal with day to day.
The initiative has been a success for the NFD who have raised $28,121.66
