VHNZ awarded Te Puni Kokiri Funding for Pae Aronui
26 August 2019
Vertical Horizonz New Zealand Ltd (VHNZ) is delighted to have been awarded funding support from Te Puni Kōkiri (TPK) for Pae Aronui: Enhanced education and employment outcomes for Māori 15–24 year olds that are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or are at risk of becoming NEET.
Our solution, Ko te hōtaka He ringa whao, he timatanga hōu, helps to re-engage Māori NEET aged 15–24 into qualification-based learning by working in accordance with their own aspirations as well as their whānau and industry employers to ensure their learning is trusted, supported and opportunistic for employment.
The Vertical Horizonz – Pae Aronui Programme offers:
- Pre-employment credits as demanded by industry
- Pre-employment skills as demanded by industry
- Stable employment opportunities
- Case management of rangatahi for 12 months
- Whānau involvement.
The Noho Marae programme is designed to allow each rangatahi the opportunity to live and learn on the marae without the distractions of their normal lives. For the three separate phases of the programme, they are transported by Vertical Horizonz to the marae and, for 20 days face-to-face, are supported within an environment entrenched in tikanga Māori.
All rangatahi cohorts have now completed their first two phases and are due to come together at the Parawera Marae (in Te Awamutu) to complete their final phase mid September. There will be a graduation ceremony held at the completion of this phase and certification awarded for their achievements. The graduation ceremony will be attended by Hon Willie Jackson, TPK representatives and VHNZ.
Local graduation ceremonies will also take place in the rangatahi home towns of Lower Hutt, Hamilton, West Auckland and South Auckland so whanau can attend and celebrate the achievements of their loved ones.
