Purpose
This course is designed to train and qualify experienced personnel to prepare for and conduct assessments against unit standards in the workplace, complete assessment administration, and review completed assessments and assessment practice.
The course emphasises the use of assessment to continually improve training and assessment practice, as much as providing a means of judging competence.
It will focus on ensuring the collection and sufficiency of valid evidence to assure judgements of competency. It provides appropriate training and qualification for anyone engaged as a workplace assessor: For example, as an on-the-job or Industry Training Organisation (ITO) assessor.
Course Objectives
On completion of this course you will be able to:
- Prepare for and conduct assessment.
- Complete assessment administration, and
- Review the assessment practice.
Course Structure
Due to requirements of the unit standard within this course, the course is structured as a one-day face to face training session followed by real assessments completed by the trainee on people in their workplace. These completed workplace-based assessments will be submitted to the VHNZ trainer for marking.
Our Teaching Method
This course will consist of a one-day classroom-based session followed by completion of assessments of trainees in the candidates own workplace. The workplace assessments will provide the evidence for assessment of the candidate’s competence.
Special Notes
It is essential that the assessments providing evidence for this unit standard are real.
Simulations will not be used for the assessment of unit standards unless their use is common practice for the type of unit standard being assessed e.g., emergency response.
If trainees do not have access to appropriate assessments for use in the workplace, relevant pre-moderated assessment materials may be purchased from VHNZ. VHNZ will provide hard copies of the assessments, a marking guide, and moderation report.
