Purpose
This course is designed to train and qualify experienced personnel to participate in assessment processes as a workplace verifier.
Verifiers do not make final assessment decisions.
Verifiers support the assessment process by:
- Verifying that evidence provided by a learner is valid and authentic.
- Confirming that the learner’s practice is in accordance with contextual requirements
- May include observing the learner completing practical tasks, and commenting on performance
The course provides appropriate training and qualification for anyone engaged as a workplace verifier: For example, as an on-the-job or apprenticeship verifier.
Course Objectives
On completion of this course you will be able to:
- Explain assessment and verification processes
- Prepare for verification
- Conduct verification
- Complete verification administration
- Review assessment verification practice
Our teaching method
This course will consist of a half-day classroom-based session followed by completion of verification of the performance of at least two trainees in the workplace. The workplace verifications will provide the evidence for assessment of the candidate’s competence.
Course Assessment
Due to requirements of the unit standard within this course, the course is structured as a half-day face to face training session with theory assessment, followed by two real verifications completed by the trainee on people in a real workplace. The completed workplace-based verifications will be submitted to the VHNZ trainer for marking.
Special Note
It is essential that the verifications providing evidence for this unit standard are real. Simulations will not be used for the assessment of unit standards unless their use is common practice for the
type of unit standard being assessed e.g., emergency response.
If trainees do not have access to appropriate assessments for use in the workplace, relevant verification materials may be purchased from VHNZ. VHNZ will provide hard copies of the assessments, a marking guide, and moderation report.
