28 April 2021 marked the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. A day that also commemorates the victims of occupational (work-related) accidents and diseases.
In New Zealand during the last 10 years more than 500 people have gone to work and not come home again. Many more have sustained life changing injuries or suffer poor health because of their work environment, with over 200,000 workers requiring more than a week away from work because of an injury.
At a national level, the International Labour Organisation challenges Governments to focus on strategies to strengthen national occupational safety and health systems to build resilience, in order to face crises now and in the future, drawing on lessons learned and experiences from the world of work.
Well if 2020 taught us one thing, it was how to be more resilient......
