    Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP)

Course Aim
The aim of this course is to produce an MEWP operator that will have the necessary knowledge, skills and attributes to operate an MEWP effectively and safely in different working environments.

The successful trainee will also be able to demonstrate the appropriate responsibilities of an MEWP operator with emphasis on accident prevention and safe operator responsibility. 

This course ensures your company is legislatively compliant. You will have met the requirements of the HSE Act, and your staff will have been made aware of the relevant Codes of Practice and guidelines relevant to MEWP machinery operations.


Course Overview
Both theory and practical lessons covering the following:
  • Health and Safety legislative requirements.
  • The various types of Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP's).
  • The NZ MEWP compliance requirements.
  • Pre-Operational checks.
  • Safe MEWP operating procedures.
  • MEWP shut down procedures.
  • Overall MEWP care and maintenance.
NZQA Unit Standards 
*23966    Describe types of elevating work platforms (EWPs), and legislative requirements for their use

Only 2 MEWP assessments are attainable per programme.

23960     Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a scissor lift elevating work platform (EWP)
23961     Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a truck mounted elevating work platform (EWP)
23962     Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a self-propelled boom lift elevating work platform (EWP)
23963     Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a trailer mounted elevating work platform (EWP)
23964     Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a vertical lift elevating work platform (EWP)

*Unit Standard 23966 is a prerequisite for the other MEWP Unit Standards

Attendance Numbers     Minimum of 5, maximum of 6 per trainer
Course Duration            Maximum of two machines - 1 day

Attendance Numbers: Minimum 8, Maximum 12          Duration: 1 day

Open.
The course requires a level of fitness to demonstrate competency for the skill being trained.
