    New Zealand Certificate in Cranes (Dogman Operations) (Level 3)

Purpose
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the crane industry with individuals who can be employed as dogmen on a range of worksites where cranes are operating.

Course Overview
Graduates are able to:
  • Sling regular loads safely using the correct lifting equipment.
  • Sling complex loads safely using the correct lifting equipment.
  • Communicate and collaborate with crane operator(s) effectively using industry recognised methods during crane operations.
  • Maintain personal safety while on the worksite, and during crane operations.
NZQA Unit Standards
3789     Sling regular loads and communicate during crane operations
3801     Prepare and sling complex loads for crane operations

Attendance Numbers     Minimum of 5, maximum of 6 per trainer
Course Duration         
Trainees must complete a minimum of six months full time equivalent documented experience working as Dogmen over a maximum of 2 years in a workplace where cranes are operating, prior to assessment of slinging regular loads safely using the correct lifting equipment, and communicating and collaborating during crane operations (Standard 3789).
Trainees must complete a further minimum of six months full time equivalent documented experience working as Dogmen over a maximum of 2 years in a workplace where cranes are operating, prior to assessment for preparing and slinging complex loads (Standard 3801).
Assessment must be carried out in an actual crane workplace, and not a simulated workplace environment.

The course duration for assessment is: 
US 3789 – 1 day (dependant on trainee evidence)
US 3801 – 2 days
